First Day of “School”

The boys started preschool last week. Finn attends Tuesday, Wednesday an Thursday from 9:30-1:30 and Wilder is there Tuesday and Thursday during the same time period. Although we are planning on homeschooling the boys, preschool has been a nice break for me and a lot of fun for the boys too. Plus, they are learning so much!

Honey took the boys and let them choose their own lunchboxes. They are of course, thrilled with them.  Right before leaving Wilder insisted that he MUST wear his green shoes (complete with mismatched laces) with his train hat, stylish!

Finn insisted that I get a photo of their backpacks. Those bags (that the boys think are totally awesome!) came from the thrift store for a dollar a piece! I hope they are always impressed with their mama’s thrifty finds, but something tells me they might outgrow it…..”It’s not a Jansport? gah!”…………are Jansports still cool? ha!

Hornworm Fun?

There are hornworms in our garden! blugh! and the little monsters are devouring our tomatoes. We found 5 last night and 2 more this morning. We learned that our hornworms are tobacco hornworms (they have a red horn) whereas a tomato hornworm has a black horn. good to know?

Although Nathan and I our not happy about their presence, the boys couldn’t be more thrilled. They are bug lovers, you know? I let them each bring in one of the worms we found this morning and they have been happily playing with them for over an hour (that is serious entertainment!)

Even Batman has gotten in on the action, a superhero to save the tomatoes! What’s that by his foot, you ask? it’s poop. One of the main highlights of playing with a hornworm for 3 and 4 year old little boys…..they eat entire leaves before your eyes (tomatoes too! unfortunately) and then they poop…….. a lot. Gross, and it is all over my kitchen table *sigh*.

Since the boys love them so, they have a new chore. Worm patrol. I don’t want to lose anymore of our delicious tomatoes!

Uh-Oh’s

In our home we have used pacifiers for MUCH longer than we should have (gasp!) No judging! I’m sure we will  be paying for our mistake in the form of braces. Finn was the first to fall in love with the little suckers and Wilder followed close behind. In our house the boys have always referred to them as ‘uh-oh’s”.I suppose because every time one fell out of their mouths as babes we would say “Uh-Oh!”
Finn ‘traded’ his uh-oh just after he turned three. We took him to the toy store, he chose a toy, and handed the uh-oh over to the lady as we checked out. That night at bedtime when he asked for his uh-oh, we let him hold his new truck instead and that was that. He went to bed and we heard of it no more.
This past week it was Wilder’s turn to give up his uh-oh. We were nervous because he was very attached to having one. Especially at bedtime. After dinner Nathan took him to the toy store and let him choose which toy he wanted to trade for. His choice (after about an hour of looking)? a bug vacuum! It looks like a handheld vacuum that sucks up bugs and then traps them under a magnifying glass so you can inspect them. (such a strange toy).
He fussed a little as he went to bed that night, and a little the next day, but not bad. It has been a week now and we have had no real breakdowns. I’m so happy with my big boy!
and goodbye uh-oh’s you are no longer welcome in this home….EVER!
